Everything you've ever wanted to know about Grey Gardens

One of my Blogosphere heroes, Joni Webb, writes the great blog Cote De Texas. Joni's an inspiration and always a good read. Her research is always as exhaustive as it is inspiring and last week she may have outdone herself.

I've been fascinated by the story of Little Edie and Big Edie Bouvier-Beale for about as long as I can remember. Last week, Joni wrote a post that may well be the definitive story of the Beales and their home. Read A Pictorial History of Grey Gardens here.

It's a fascinating story but also very sad.

  4. What's so fascinating about the doco though is that it's not sad. Not really. The Beales' don't seem to have any clue that they live in squalor. Their delusion is contagious.

  5. I watched that movie two night ago and I loved it. I'm afraid I'm going to end up like that - Gene dies long before me and I end up some old kook running around in a pink turban and leopard-print muu-muuu, living in a house with a pack of dogs and 30 cats.

  9. You are so welcome Joni and yes, Melody is an amazement. The woman's a force of nature. Who else could slog through the desert doing field work one day and then whip up vintage fashions when she gets home? You have a new fan Melody.
