Sarah Jessica parker et al, please retire.

Daily Shite

Sex and the City was a pretty funny sit com on HBO once upon a time. As such it was a moment in time. A group of women running around and acting like stereotypical gay men was funny in 1999.

It's not 1999 anymore.

Ladies, you're sullying your legacy. Let's call it a day. Shall we?

  1. Seriously. I saw the commercials for that inane production and it looks like they've jumped the shark a long time ago. I never watched one episode of that show.

  2. I wonder how long will they continue, cause you know there will be another one, and me too I never watched the show

  3. Well I did watch the show and it was pretty amusing. I saw the first movie out of some kind of solidarity and what I saw was four whiny cliches chasing after a cliche-ed happy ending. Ugh. The new one promises to be more of the same only with more product placements.

  4. Do you remember when TV show casts used to do their reunions on the TV? And they were cheesy and wrapped up some of the loose ends and what-are-they-doing-now curiosities, but pretty bad and something you don't admit to your friends you just have to watch. Sometimes they didn't even have the same actors in all the parts.

The SATC movie 1 seemed a lot like that to me, everything falling into place, very conveniently, just like a reunion special. Now it is embarrassing, like the later (and severely anachronistic) Waltons reunions or the Brady Bunch, or Eight is Enough.

  5. Hah! What was the short-lived Brady Bunch spin-off sitcom? It was about Jan and Marcia as newlyweds. Come to think of it, Lisa Hartman had a short-lived sitcom about the grown up Tabitha from Bewitched. Anyhow, I agree with you. A lot of people have a limitless hunger for nostalgia. Ugh.

  6. I have never been a SATC fan (sorry, but it is SO not my thing), and when I saw a trailer for this movie on the Daily Show I thought, UGH, how could they possibly have made the whole concept even more banal... and yet they apparently did.

  7. Okay I have to admit it..... My Hubby and I went to see the movie. We used to be Satc fans. Your poster is not far off. Kim is getting to old to be chasing after men. At least her love interest in the movie was not someone from another generation. But where it used to be funny, it now seems a little sad. There were actually some very touching scenes in the movie, but they trashed it up with things better left on the cutting room floor. After all it was 2 1/2 hours long!!!!!!!

  8. Banal or not, I did love the original series. It was hardly Hamlet and never pretended to be. As the series wore on though it ended up carrying some kind of a generation mantle which is total BS. Sue, how on earth did they squeeze 2 1/2 hours out of those story lines. I know they brought back the horrible Aiden which is all I needed to hear to know that they'd have to pay me to see that movie.

  10. What does a bad movie have to do with a bias against women aging? I thought the Sisterhood of the Travelling pants was insipid and I walked out of it. Am I biased against young women too? A bad movie is a bad movie and a tired franchise is a tired franchise.

  11. I do like Sarah Jessica Parker but have never been a fan of SATC. If I tuned in at all, it would be strictly to see the Fashions.

My dtr. however loved the Sitcom and went to see the Movie last week. It was a 'Mother and Baby Matinee'. She said, during the last twenty minutes of it, a chorus of babies ended up crying which expressed her exact sentiments of how terrible this Movie actually was. :)

  12. Welcome back Brenda, it's good to see you in the comments again. Great anecdote about the audience's crying jag at the end of the movie.

  13. They crammed as many outfit changes as possible into the 2 1/2 hours and filled it up with Samantha's menopausal symptoms, because she wasn't allowed to take her "Hormones" (drugs) into the middle east. And her defiance of the way woman are treated there. Ending with her having a melt down, bitchy hissy fit and telling all the men what idiots they were. As she paraded around in short shorts and revealing top flipping the natives off. Very embarrassing to say the least. Talk about promoting the Ugly american over seas and Bitchy older woman. Really!!! This did not need to be in the movie. Really Bad!!!!!!! this could become the ultimate cult movie it is so bad. Sue

  14. We saw the movie last night, and I have to agree with most assessments in the comments. The movie is way too long, everyone who had a significant role in storyline development during the series gets at least 2 minutes in the film, and the whole film serves as a vehicle to see how many costume changes they can run the girls through before the inevitably syrupy conclusion. Obviously no one is going to this expecting a highbrow piece of cinema, and it pretty much played to my expectations. Miranda looks the best out of everyone, and the company who Sarah Jessica Parker pimps cosmetic products for in real life should sue her, because she looked absolutely horrendous. I've seen drag queens with less makeup...

  15. The die was cast the moment they cast the horrible John Corbett as the horrible Aiden. That character as played by that actor ruined that series and any movie where he has so much as a cameo is dead on arrival. Had Aiden not come back we'd be toasting this film instead of groaning about it and Sarah Jessica Parker et al would have swept the Oscars. The man ruins everything he touches.
