A country that can't get a break just got kneecapped again and it's a horror show to watch unfold. If you'd like to do something to help but don't know what, consider donating to Medcins Sans Frontieres. They are Doctors without Borders in English and they are a non-sectarian, non-political relief organization. They help without strings attached and for that they deserve support every day. Faced with the utter destruction in Haiti, they need support now more than ever.
When ghoulish assholes like Pat Robertson make statements like this, giving my money to non-sectarian charities becomes even more important than it is usually.
Would someone please ask Pat to keep his ridiculous opinions to himself. Thank you.
Yeah, I saw that interview with Pat earlier today when I was bored at work >.> That man is so full of hate that I don't know how he lives. Thanks for posting about a good place to donate to, Paul :)
ReplyDeleteI'm telling you, that Pat Robertson thing enraged me like nothing I've come across in recent memory. Probably since he blamed feminists and gays for September 11th. Grrrr. Anyhow, I had to do something productive with my rage that could help out in Haiti in some small way without peddling nationalism and evangelicalism at the same time. Who better than Medecins sans Frontieres?
ReplyDeleteHe needs to be put out of his misery.
ReplyDeleteI hope that this is the final time he puts his foot in his mouth. He does a great job of admitting his bigotry accidentally.
ReplyDeleteGood call on pointing out that Doctors without Borders could use the help Paul. It seems like there is a lot of support out there for Haiti right now, and I hope it continues. I learned more about Haiti from Haitians I met while living in Miami. They told me lots of sad stories about a really beautiful island. This latest disaster seems insurmountable, but if any group of experienced people can recover and move on, it's the people of Haiti.
ReplyDeleteOh, and FUCK YOU Pat Robertson.
There I feel much better and I am assured a comfortable place in Heaven awaits me.
With a tragedy of this proportions so new and so huge, there is no excuse for Pat Robertson's behavior. Seriously, the man's a dangerous crackpot.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Paul. Pat Robertson reminds me of one of the reasons I converted from Protestantism to Eastern Orthodoxy. Please just shut up and help these poor people.
ReplyDelete"If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless. Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world." James 1:27
Thank you Leigh, decency is always welcome no matter how it's expressed. You're an asset to Eastern Orthodoxy.
ReplyDeleteI agree Paul, 'MSF' is a worthy cause to donate to. Though the organization was founded in France; they have membership throughout the World who are not politcally connected and/or influenced.
ReplyDeleteRe Pat Robertson; shame shame on the Media who encourage him which brings me to the subject of the following:
Briefly and bluntly; as much as I love your GREAT Country, coverage by the American Press is enough to make you feel ill as there are many heroes in this story whom they sadly choose to dismiss. -Brenda-
Brenda: I couldn't agree with you more. I stopped watching broadcast news of any kind in the aftermath of September 11th. I watched the events unfold for a couple of days and was appalled to see how that tragedy got spun and twisted into a pathetic political campaign before my very eyes. Broadcast news exists to manipulate the emotions of the people who watch it and it turns my stomach.
ReplyDeleteI read my news now and have since that horrible week in 2001. I have no doubt that the US networks are spinning the Haitian earthquake tragedy to meet the ends of whoever's pulling the strings that week. I can't stomach it, the photos and stories coming from Port au Prince are heartbreaking enough.
