A lot of that is due to out proximity to the port of Tampa though. Most of the granite we see is from Brazil and nearly all of it is 3cm. I can't remember the last time I saw a 2cm slab in fact. I'm pretty knowledgeable about the stuff but I haven't really noticed anything strange quality-wise. What I do notice is that there has been a huge upsurge in the amount of quartzite I see. Quartzite's always more prone to cracking than granite is and I do caution people about that. I'm a regular at the fabricators I use and I do ask to see backs of slabs from time to time, usually if I see a wide fissure that's been filled in, but other than that I don't. What are the countries of origin of the slabs you're seeing problems with?Paul Anaterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05777487147630173644noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2143843667296816868.post-51442416547777895272009-04-09T12:47:00.000-04:002009-04-09T12:47:00.000-04:00Thanks Susan!Paul, I don't know if this is happeni...Thanks Susan!

Paul, I don't know if this is happening in your area, but I've noticed the quality of granite has dropped in the last few years. Do you ever recommend folks to check the back of the slab as well as the front?

I'm noting a fair amount of repair work (fiberglass mostly) for many of the slabs, but then again, this area also does a fair amount of 2cm slabs as well as 3cm...Kelly at Kitchen Synchttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14222988371455223006noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2143843667296816868.post-31502641974628613662009-04-08T09:44:00.000-04:002009-04-08T09:44:00.000-04:00Thanks Susan, I tell people all the time that it's...Thanks Susan, I tell people all the time that it's a profession for a reason. Colors do vary! Also, mentioning the importance of hiring a kitchen designer. Kelly had a great blog about the location of kitchen faucets. Both you and I added comments. Even her client added one about all the details involved and being glad she hired Kelly.
