This is how they see us

This sign was hanging on a display by Gorenje, a Slovenian appliance manufacturer I've blogged about here frequently. If you don't know, the rest of the world calls full-size, side-by-side refrigerators American refrigerators.

This is the model that sign was promoting.

  2. I'm still in awe of my "normal" American side-by-side nearly two years on from my stay in New Zealand. My Kiwi fridge had the capacity of two dorm fridges. And don't get me started on the washing machine.

  3. The only time my American fridge is full is when we have a party otherwise it holds salad, condiments, white wine and sparkling water #europeanfail

  4. We hosted a soccer team from Denmark one year when my daughter was playing and the Danes who had never been to America were astounded at the size of our refrigerator. I think the thing is only 26 cubic feet or something, so it isn't as big as many here. And the fact that they made refrigerators even larger and were fairly standard astounded them even more.

  5. It's true! I'm over in England house hunting right now and our agent referred to our refrigerators the same way. Leaving the country makes me realize how glutenous the US is in so many ways!

  6. My father-in-law just bought this American style fridge. He wanted it without the ice thingie and had to order it custom made. :P

  7. Correction Paul, not quite 'in the rest of the world' as in Canada they don't.

  8. I'll respectfully disagree with mrsben. We often refer to American vs. European sized appliances in our firm. As Canadians we just adopt whatever works best.
