Interactive stairway lights --how cool is this?

My cousin Tim sent me this video this afternoon and I think it's just about the coolest thing I've seen in ages.

It wouldn't bee terribly difficult to put together. All you need is a series of motion detectors and timers and you're set. Thanks Tim!

  1. Love the interactive stairs! My husband would save his toes! Stumps them just about every night in the dark... ;)

  2. All hail my cousin Tim. I forwarded that video to my lighting guy this afternoon. I will install something like this. Mark my words.

  3. So much for sneaking downstairs for a midnight snack - beyond that, that is a great idea

I think you could probably get by with just 2 motion detectors and a lighting control unit

    Nice find Tim

  4. Thanks Sean. Do you think the lighting control could handle the staggered on and off?

  5. Sure I don't see why not, you just have to figure out the timing & the rest is simple programming (so says the guy who simply hires it out)

  6. That's the exact reason I sent it to my lighting guy immediately. It's his job to know how to wire these things!

  7. Nice...it would save me having to turn on the big bold light that blinds me in the middle of the night. Not sure I'd like them that bright, but I think that's a function of setting too.

    Nice find!

  8. They are pretty intense LEDs. Done with a warmer LED, this is a killer idea.

  9. hah, my only concern would be the cat... he'd either love it and play on the stairs all night, or it would freak him out and he wouldn't ever go up and down stairs at night at all.

  10. Just as the answer to where can I prop up my leg to shave it is don't shave, the same logic applies here. Don't have a cat. They steal your breath anyway.
